There’s a lot of work that goes into selling your home and preparing your house to be sold. The first and most important step in that process can often be the hardest, you have to de-clutter and get as many of your personal items as possible out of the house! If potential buyers are coming in the door and see your family photos and items of personal memorabilia, they will have a harder time imagining themselves and their family living in the house.

It’s also crucial that you keep everything well-lit and as clean as you possibly can. Make sure you clean windows and trim any bushes outside to let in natural sunlight. If you can, invest in light bulbs with a higher wattage too. Keeping your home well-lit will help it seem brighter and more cheerful, which will make it more appealing and an easier sell.

Make sure you keep the whole house in tip top condition, including any storage areas. Storage is one of the top things buyers are looking for and they will snoop through every nook and cranny that they can find, so keep cabinets and shelves looking neat and organized. Empty part of your clothes out of the closets to make them seem more spacious and organized.

Staging is also important when selling your home. Make sure beds have nice comforters and your couch looks inviting with a few throw pillows. Have candles on hand to light before showing the house and have a few magazines placed nicely on the table. You want to make sure your home is inviting and a few accents can really help sway a potential buyer.

The interior of the house is what most people think of when “cleaning up” their house, but it is also important to make sure the outside is looking fresh and appealing when you’re selling your home. First impressions are everything, so make sure the outside is clean and trim, maybe plant some flowers or even have some landscaping done in order to boost the curb appeal of your home.
